“my work opens the portal to The questions and contemplations of death, birth, and what it means to be human. the haunting unknown, In-between, Both/And is not to be shied away from. For me, beauty is found in the grotesque and horror among everyday sights.”
About
Amaya is an assemblage Artist, combining Mixed Media with Poetry. Their work is cut, sorted, and constructed by hand. by using minimal tools and techniques, amaya deliberately displays imperfections in her art. With their crooked lines and tears, her art forces the viewer to acknowledge that another human created it. Intentionally rejecting the unrealistic standard of the Infallible, amaya’s art is raw, authentic, and perfectly human.

Death is a bridge, a thread that weaves us all together, a universal human experience. Yet, death is romanticized, watered down, or avoided entirely. By digging up this subject and bringing it into the light, Amaya hopes to de-stigmatize death and show the beauty and transformation it can offer us.

Amaya reverses the script forced upon women, femmes, or people assigned female at birth by the cisgender, heterosexual patriarchy throughout their work. An expression of rage and frustration at a system designed and operated by misogynists, she applies the words, actions, and thought patterns of their oppressors back to them.

In constant wonder of what it means to be human, to be alive, and what really matters, Amaya explores the ongoing, larger than life questions through a metaphysical lens.
